A Little History
Some kind of tile work has been suggested but no one quite knew what shape the project should take. In the fall of 2006, FACE members, the Neighborhood Parks Council and muralists, Precita Eyes met to discuss the possibility of joining forces to bring a major art installation to the park. FACE applied for a Community Challenge Grant in Dec. 2006 and was approved for the project. Then after going through a number of hurtles with several commissions and departments, the work began in Oct. 2007. The project is continued all that winter and into the spring every Saturday (if it didn't rain). We also would like this project to be a springboard for a Friends of Crocker Amazon Playground to be led by the families who come to the playground each week. Many people have no idea what can be done to successfully steward a park like this. We want to offer our help to get them started and to help continue to monitor the park for repairs and improvements.
